Hollywood: Toxic or Telling?

On January 7th CBS premiered the 81st Golden Globe Awards ceremony. Celebrities touted about in all the glitz and glamor, with signature pieces by Louis Vuitton, Dior Haute Couture, and the like. But it wasn’t just the couture that captured attention. Many took to social media with videos of an affectionate kiss given to actor Cillian Murphy from his wife, Yvonne McGuinness.

McGuinness dominated the Google searches of interested watchers, likely due to her typically absence from the spotlight. But there is more to unearth beneath the private life of one of Hollywood’s more elusive couples. Unlike the ever-changing relationship between many celebs, Murphy and McGuiness, who have been married since 2004, uphold the values of family above the limelight.

When asked about His traditional family values, Murphy has attributed it to his religious upbringing in the Roman Catholic faith. However, following his role in the 2007 film Sunshine, Murphy has since confirmed his views as an atheist. However, we are left with one question. How does someone so immersed in religion divert courses to adopt a view which posits that there is no God at all?

Inescapable, is the fact that religiosity, but more importantly, Christianity, affects the entirety of one’s values no matter the climate or culture. But more pertinent is the fact that Hollywood’s liberal dogma of godless existence has pushed its way into the lives of those once raised upon the foundation of morality. Thus, the toxicity of Hollywood is evertelling of the depravity our great nation and the world faces as we are pulled towards postmodernity while simultaneously we are ripped from the Christocentric values of our upbringing. So is Hollywood toxic or telling? All signs point to both.
